Face to Face: A Returning

I have had a heavy burden laying upon my heart over the last several weeks.

A return, if you will.

As things begin to be shaken all around us with Planned Parenthood exposures, marriage being defiled, and unfaithful followers of Christ being outed, I have felt a strong urging to return to my One True Love.

This call must begin with my own confession.  I have built my life’s relationship to Christ on the words, thoughts, and doctrines of others.  I have lived a third party relationship with God since I began following Him many years ago.  I have sat under pastors and teachers, read books and commentaries, bought audio messages and the like.  I have formed much of what I believe and know about the bible on the words others have said ABOUT the bible.  Well intentioned as this was, this is not the time for good intentions.  This is a time in desperate need of truth.

He is calling us back.  Back to Him and back to HIS WORD ALONE.

There is wonderful richness in the fellowshipping of believers, the talking, teaching and sharing of His word,   But this should be the part of the building that brings beauty and unity to the whole and NOT OUR FOUNDATION.  We should test everything for ourselves and KNOW His word.

I have always read my bible, but I have not known it and therefore I have not fully known Him.  Not as He truly is in His fullness.  I have a million great quotes and perspectives on things of the faith running through my head, but not a million scriptures.

I have not studied it intently, made it my goal and aim, feasted on it in His presence, or relied upon it for my daily bread.

I have been content to sort of know it.  To read it and put it down.  To use it as a tool, a time filler, or an encouraging word.   And while it can be all of these things, it is intended to be so much more.

He is the WORD made flesh.

If He is to be our life and our salvation we must KNOW HIM.  And to KNOW Him, we must turn back to His word.  We must hunger for it, we must be willing to be the priest and enter into that holy place that He reserves for us through the blood of our Messiah.

Do you see how ridiculous this is?  We spend so much time listening to other people’s views, opinions, experiences, and doctrines on the christian life that we neglect the very ONE that gives life.

As believers, after the cross, we have an invitation to know God “face to face”.  What was not even possible for Moses who had to veil his face from the holiness of God is given to us as an invitation through our Messiah Yeshua…

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.  Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

–2 Corinthians 3:12-18

This is the most intimate of knowing possible and can’t happen in the context of 3.  You don’t date in three’s, you don’t marry in three’s, you don’t have intimate knowing fellowship in three’s.  This knowing happens one on one – face to face.  Me and Him.  You and Him.

Three is a crowd- but 2 is company.

He wants to keep company with us!  He wants us to KNOW Him.  To know Him we must study His word-not just read it.

But to study His word we must make room for it.  We must pursue it.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. Proverbs 25:2

We are to be searching, seeking, expecting, waiting, trusting –  for this is OUR GLORY because it will BRING FORTH HIS!!!!

I believe this message, this call, is a timely one.  We are entering into days where what is right is being called wrong and what is wrong is being called right.  Now more than ever we must return to our one solid foundation so that when things shake we will have sure footing in the truth.

He is calling us back.  Back to His word.  For in His words we will find Life.

Will you join me in our return?

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,  so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. Deuteronomy 11: 18-20
